I'm looking for picture books that are lists. The ones I've come up with so far are:

The Quiet Book, The Loud Book, and, The Christmas Quiet Book - written by Deborah Underwood and illustrated by Renata Liwska

Not A Box, and, Not A Stick - by Antoinette Portis

Does anyone have any more recommendations of PBs like this?

 :thankyou

I may post again with a longer list of lists, but Goodnight Moon is the first thing that comes to mind. Basically just an inventory!

I haven't read those books, Stephanie, but Molly Idle's Tea Rex and Camp Rex are lists of rules. Vampirina Ballerina has a similar structure, but those all have plot development within the list.

Todd Parr's books (The OK Book, The Hair Book) are all lists that might be what you're looking for. Or something like Lyn Munsinger's What Mommies/Daddies/Sisters/etc. Do Best books.

Thanks, Shauna and Kell! I hadn't thought of those books having lists, but now that you mention it ... will have to revisit these books!

For rules, the No, David! series of books by David Shannon would fit as well.

Hmm.

Thinking.

Thank you!

THE HOUSE IN THE NIGHT by by Susan Swanson and THE NAPPING HOUSE by Audrey Wood. (There may be something about sleep time that inspires lists.) Oh! Also, CLEO'S COLOR BOOK by Caroline Mockford, and many of the Eric Carle books (BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR; THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR, etc.), THE WATER HOLE by Grahame Base. I think a fair amount of the early picture books/board books have lists.

Thanks you, HDWestlund! Looking forward to revisiting the books you listed, and checking out a couple of them for the first time! I think you're right about a lot of PBs having lists. I'd go to the library or the bookstore, but can't right now. *looks out window at all the snow* Maybe tomorrow, or the next day. The snow has to stop eventually!

I was reading books at the library today, Stephanie, and came across the following PBs that use the 'list' format or contain lists within the story:

Sophie Peterman Tells the Truth
17 Things I'm Not Allowed to Do Anymore
Charlie's Checklist
Field Trip Fiasco
How to Clean Your Room in 10 Easy Steps

I hope this helps!

A picture book that not only has lists, multiple lists, but is ABOUT a person who made lists, is the recent Caldecott Honor book, The Right Word, about the Roget of Roget's Thesaurus...
