Do you use illustration notes in your manuscript? My WIP has some of the detail in the pictures. When I add illustration notes I tend to get feedback to allow room for the illustrator to work - but if I intend to be the illustrator do I get some leeway with this?
I may have gone overboard with illustration notes last time out of frustration.

I use a lot of illustration notes, but they are intended for me (as well as maybe a cp). I jot down the visuals that come to me as i write the story. By the time my agent sees something, I have a sketch dummy for her and she doesn't see my text doc. She also subs my work that way, just the dummy. But when I was querying agents and needed to attach or paste text, I took out all illo notes that weren't needed to understand the text. Inwould save an illo note heavy version for myself, and make a copy that took the extraneous ones out for submitting. Also, when I worked on books under contract with an editor that weren't already written, she wanted lots of illustration notes so she knew what I was thinking for each scene.

So I guess my answer is different depending on the circumstance! If you are intending to illustrate the work you are submitting, my advice would be to sub a dummy with it. Failing that, at least 2 or 3 art samples.
