Sorry if this question has already been asked. I did a search but didn't come up with anything.

In a standard PB query/cover letter (agent personalization, pitch, book details, bio), where do you put the referral line?
Would it be the last line in the personalization section?
Also what would that line be?  "Person x has referred me to you." ?

My referrer told me to send my queries out and then let her know and she would follow up.

Thanks!

I've always put it in the subject line, after what other info the guidelines require:

Query: contemporary YA TITLE HERE, referred by John Green  [to pick a random name :snork]

I've done the same thing as AnneB. The guidelines for some agents specifically request it, and it makes sense to me to make sure they see it. I also put my personalization section at the beginning of the query in that case.

I once referred a friend to my agent and she specifically asked me to have the writer put my name in the subject.

Huh. I've always done it as the first intro line for personalization. I still got quick responses. :)

I started the query with "Name suggested I query you with..." or something similar.

Either first line or subject line (or both) is fine.

Definitely not last!
