I'm wondering which human girl characters in picture books really stood out for you, in terms of how they looked. For me, Stella (Marie Louise Gay), Birdie (Sujean Rim), and Peppermint Patty (Charlie Brown, not a picture book, though!) are some that have really captured my heart and imagination. What about you?

Pippi Longstocking (50s/60s original)!

'Drawing a blank on others that spoke to me in regard to their physical characteristics, but I agree about Stella. Love Stella. Love her.

I really like Annabelle from Extra Yarn, by Mac Barnett and John Klassen. I'm very partial to stripes.

I have a soft spot for most of LeUyen Pham's characters. Especially from BIG SISTER, LITTLE SISTER. I also really enjoy Molly Idle's characters, like the little girl in TEA REX.

I always loved Lola in the Charlie and Lola books by Lauren Child. And of course anything Marie Louise Gay draws.

I love Lily in Julius, the Baby of the World, And Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. Love how the words relay/deny the actions of the sibling relationship, in Julius. Also, The Zelda and Ivy series which I guess is more chapter book.      :bewildered

Thanks all. Really interesting! I must admit, it's tough for me to think up which girl characters appealed most to me based on visuals alone. Aside from the ones I mentioned I'm having a tough time pinpointing them and WHY they appeal. Actually, I just thought of another one, Sarah Warburton's Mabel (MABEL AND ME). I love that little girl. Oh and I forgot Madeline too!
