Hi All,

just wanted to share a great workshop I took this April about school visits. It's called Capturing the Spotlight: Getting the Gigs by the Highlights Foundation in Boyds Mills, PA, and was led by author Larry Dane Brimner. I believe they have it each year. It was a great intro to what is involved, how to tailor your visit by age/grade, how to price out, and how to get visits.  I was lucky to receive a scholarship for it as my husband was laid off at the time. You can email them to see if they are running it again and ask about their scholarship program. https://www.highlightsfoundation.org/workshops/getting-the-gigs-2015/

From this workshop  I was able to create a presentation and book my first 3 practice visits this past June (with success after much anxiety!) and now booking for Fall.

I also plan to attend the more advanced workshop they have each spring on fine-turning your workshop led by Peter Jacobi.

Good luck with school visits everyone!  :stars3

Sounds like a wonderful workshop, Donna, and Larry is an incredible author and a dynamic, informative speaker. I'm sure that everyone who attended got a lot out of his workshop. Thanks for sharing....

Larry, has also been wonderful with follow up too. He's very generous with his time to help you as you move along the path with your first school visits. He's a treasure and with 160+ books and 20 years of school visits under his belt, a wealth of information.

I was at that workshop with Donna (Hi, Donna!) and second her endorsement. It really opened my eyes to what I could, and should, do.
