I enthusiastically started my first draft thinking that my story idea is fresh & unique. But now I'm wondering if it really is.
Can you suggest some books where a parent gets sick for comparison? (relatively minor illness, not major illness like cancer)
All I can think of is Bear Gets Sick by Karma Wilson and Bear isn't really the parent.
Thanks!

Oh I LOVE that book Darshana!

Another one is Miss Bindergarten Stays Home from Kindergarten. Again not exactly a parent/child but close.

And I know that you asked for minor not major illnesses, but if you haven't read SCAR you should because it is a wonderful, made you cry picture book. Charlotte Moundlic does such an amazing job with touching the feelings of a small boy who just lost his mom.

There is a book called When Eric's Mom Fought Cancer. The author's last name is Vigna. I know you indicated you weren't looking for that level of sick, but it's out there.

The key is in finding your twist. Everything has been done, but not the way you'll do it. It's good to know the ways others have tackled it though.

are you just looking at picture books?

I was really moved by EVERYTHING IS FINE by Ann Dee Ellis (novel, not picture book)

I believe the PB Sloppy Joe by Dave Keane has the parents and maybe a sibling getting sick with a cold or flu.
