Highlights was very interested in one of my poems but the general consensus from the editors was that it was set up like a joke with a punch line that fell flat. I was advised that if I choose to revise my poem again that they would reconsider.
I had never even fathomed writing a joke before. Of course the funniest punch line I can think of refers to the toilet... which my kids find funny & completely ridiculous but I think it might not be a good fit for Highlights?  I'm not sure a line about the kitchen sink would really hit the spot.

Are you asking whether Highlights would consider a poem that has potty humor?  I'd say no.  In my experience, Highlights likes corny things, but they keep their content squeaky clean.

No, they def won't go for potty humor.

I once had a poem about a wiener dog and they asked me to take out the word "wiener". LOL.

Scat is acceptable in science articles. I would definitely revise and resubmit. Why not submit it with two different endings and a note that you weren't sure if the first ending was acceptable so you provided an alternate one.  :grin4

Thanks! I actually did a lot of thinking about what made the toilet line so funny & out of the blue came another idea with the same idea but not the potty. Fish bowl or tank instead.
