In my MG novel, the central character is a young irascible boy (animal) that is forever getting in trouble.  He has a crush on a girl animal; is this OK?   She wants nothing to do with such an irresponsible creature, but in the end the boy redeems himself.  They go on a picnic cruise in her sail boat, and he extends his hand to help her out of the boat.  She takes it; is this OK in MG?
