About a year ago, I was in my local library and happened to catch a glimpse of a flyer seeking people who would be interested in writing for a group that performed play readings.  Unfortunately, the group was not interested in works for children.  However, having been met with a plethora of rejections of my children's stories, I decided to give the theatre group a try.  I changed directions, stepped away from writing children's stories, and turned my attention to writing plays instead.  There was a learning curve, of course, but I had been presented with a great opportunity, and I learned a lot about the ins and outs of writing for the theatre.  A number of months later, I came across a theatre publisher that was seeking plays for elementary age children.  Just my luck!  I now had the experience I needed to answer the call.  So, I got to work and wrote a short comedy for young people called "Cake for the Queen."  A couple of months after I submitted the play, the publisher contacted me.  They expressed their interest, but they wanted revisions.  They sent me a lengthy set of dramaturgical notes.  I did a rewrite, and we went back and forth like that for quite some time.  Eventually, the publisher accepted my play, and I am happy to announce that my children's comedy, "Cake for the Queen," was recently published by YouthPLAYS.  It was also included in YouthPLAYS' elementary school play anthology "It's Elementary!"

Congratulations, Hopeful!!!

 :congratulations

What a great story!! I'm truly inspired.

More than once,  frustration and discouragement has led me to stop writing for a time. But YOU - instead of stepping away altogether - experimented with another kind. And look at you now - - a playwright!!

Thank you for sharing. Here's to many more plays!!

(and here's some celebratory cake for the queen:    :cupcake )
