Writing vs. typing addresses for postcards

Hello, everyone! I just received my postcards, and I'm ready to start addressing them! :hurrah

My question before I address which publishers they go to: Is it better to type the address that the postcard is going to? Or is it still okay to write the address with pen? I'm worried that writing it myself will come off as unprofessional and publishers won't keep my postcard. Thoughts?

Thank you so much in advance! :grouphug2

I think hand-addressing is perfectly fine if your handwriting stands out in an artistic way and/or you can doodle around the borders.  Everybody loves getting decorated mail these days.  Just make sure it's professional-looking.

Thanks, Anne Marie! That's good to know, because I don't currently have a way of printing all of the sending addresses :embarrassed3
Now that I have all the addresses organized, it's time to write!

I used to hand-address them, but it took FOREVER.  I broke down and bought a pack of sticky labels.  Now I just print them in a batch.  Took some time to set up the mailing list, but it's so much faster now.  I no longer dread doing my promo postcards.  :)

I'll honestly need to do that soon, it took me a long time to write everything 😂 I'll need to figure out how to set that up too! I have no idea where to start with that, but I should definitely start now lol. Thanks so much Karen!! 😊🌸

I've always done handwriting but just couldn't do it this time. I broke down & figured out how to print out sticky labels except the addresses didn't fit nicely (I'm in Canada so have to add USA to the bottom of all the addresses). It was just as painful as hand-addressing all the cards. I'll probably handwrite the next batch (a smaller group of highly targeted cards) before attempting to print the labels again.

I've done printed labels and found them annoying to get right also. Some street names are very long. I gave up on it. I even used to print the addresses directly on the envelopes but the envelopes would seal in the heat of the printer.

Look around online for just the right sized label for postcards.  I'm using some 3" X 2" ones.  Those don't seem to be a standard size, so you probably won't find them in a store.  Those fit perfectly on postcards and perfectly fine on big manila envelopes.  So, they basically work for all my mailing label needs.  I'm using Outlook for my mailing list and mail merging into Word.  Once it's in Word, I can adjust (for each address individually) the font size and other formatting however I need to to make it fit the space.  That way I don't have trouble with too-long or excessively multi-lined addresses.  I can make space for it by adjusting the size.

Good luck!

I used to print out addresses but not anymore, probably because I don't submit as much. I wish I'd take the time to do a bit of calligraphy since it is fun but I don't...but what joy it is to receive well-addressed snail mail. Never underestimate the effect of beauty upon a person.
Best wishes on your submissions. V.

That's true, it's probably not that necessary unless you have a hundred or more! I'm only sending 50 postcards to start (mostly because I don't have the funds for all those cards with my student loan payments coming up :cry2), and thankfully it didn't take me that long to handwrite them. I may switch to sticky labels if I include a LOT more publishers in my promo mail, since that would be killer on my wrist lol. At least each post card has an individual doodle at the bottom :cheesy
