Hello friends!   :love4
My namesake MG novel, Butterfly Girl , is now out in the world!  :running

Huge thanks  to everyone here who celebrated with me yesterday on Twitter! I'm so grateful for this community!! From queries and drafting to finding an agent, my friends from the BB have been trusted allies and partners on this journey from the very beginnning.

Special thanks to Mindy Alyse Weiss whose post on from the Mixed-Up Files of Middle Grade Authors gave me and Butterfly Girl a huge boost! I have been struggling with the idea of moving out of my writing cave and into the light, and Mindy's enthusiasm and kindness gave me courage.  :hug Here's a link to her wonderful interview:

A huge congratulations, Sarah!!!  :yay :hairdude :flowers2 :stars3 :love5 :goldstar :goodluck :yay

Yes, it feels awkward to actually put yourself and your beautiful book out there, but that's why you worked so hard on it. Because you wanted to share this part of yourself with the world!  :redbaron

And it may be soon to ask, but are you working on the next project?  :grin3

Thank you, friends!  :love5 I appreciate your wonderful support!! :grouphug2

Ena, in answer to your question, Butterfly Girl was scheduled to be released over a year ago, but shortly before the manuscript went on to pre-publishing final stages, I asked my editor for a "quick read." I had drafted a new novel, and I wondered if Butterfly Girl could use a few tweaks, based on things I had learned while writing that new novel. That quick read surprised me--after a long break from reading the manuscript, I realized that what I wanted to accomplish would require more than a few tweaks. There were several elements that could be improved, but it would require a slow, methodical approach--in other words, a lot more time.  I revised several scenes and sent my editor Before and After examples, to see if she'd allow me to revise the entire novel. She liked what I did--it kept the content intact but smoothed and tightened the writing . . . and in the process it pushed us back a full year, since I was working on two novels simultaneously.

So, now the timing is slightly crunched with launching Butterfly Girl, a picture book release next month, and a new novel on its way out for submission this very week! But now I am in the position of having nothing in the works and wondering how I ever wrote anything at all! It feels like a mystery to me each time until a new idea grabs me and I remember I can do this, I think (I hope!)

Oh, wow, Sarah. I am impressed on so many levels! And of course you can do this, but I've heard the feeling of "Can I really do this?" never goes away, regardless of the number of books we've written, and I for sure experience that doubt/panic myself.

Good luck with the next one!!!

If Harry Potter has already made a Patronus... You can do this. You've done it. You may just need to let the creative bucket refill for a bit.
