I'm thrilled to announce that my middle grade novel, EMILY OUT OF FOCUS, releases today! It tells the story of twelve-year-old Emily, a future photojournalist, who flies to China to adopt her baby sister. Hoping to use the trip as a way to take the winning photos for a contest she plans to enter, she meets Katherine, another big sister who enlists her help for her secret plan: to find her birth mother.

This story has a special place in my heart, inspired by our trip to adopt our daughter from China in 2005.

I spent ten years writing and rewriting this book. I queried agents with multiple versions, but it wasn't until I signed with my agent that I figured out how to revise it so it would be strong enough to go on submission. So, don't give up on those shelved manuscripts: I have 2 that eventually made their way into the world!

Congratulations!!  Sounds like an intriguing story.  My 48-year-old adopted nephew just reconnected with his birth family this past year, so I know it's an issue that will resonate with lots of individuals and families.
