The second and final SCBWI Books for Readers event took place in Providence, RI on December 9 in support of the Refugee Dream Center (RDC), a resettlement organization that provides care and services to displaced people who have settled in the US. SCBWI members donated nearly one thousand of their own books to provide kids with stories that can help them as they transition to their new homes.
SCBWI Executive Director Lin Oliver and RDC Founder and Executive Director Omar Bah welcomed over one hundred refugee guests along with many PAL members from the New England region. In addition to the book donation, the celebratory event included entertainment for the kids, who created their own bookplates for their new book, took pictures with their friends and families, created a picture under the guidance of SCBWI PAL illustrators, and enjoyed a story time read-aloud with PAL member Kara LaReau.
Big thanks to the SCBWI New England regional team and PAL members who came out to support the event!
