Synopsis

Why count buttons or crayons when you can count sea otters? Dive beneath the waves and discover a magical kelp forest full of colorful ocean creatures—while learning numbers, colors, and marine biology! Perfect for preschoolers, toddlers, and early learners, Count with Kelp: Counting and Colors for the Youngest Marine Biologists introduces young readers to the wonders of the sea through playful rhyme and fascinating sea life facts. From ten sea otters floating on the surface to one giant kelp swaying below, children will meet a cast of real ocean animals that live along the California coast. This vibrant children’s picture book blends STEM learning and storytelling, helping kids build counting skills, color recognition, and a love of nature—all at the same time. Each page invites children to observe, count, and name the creatures that call the kelp forest home. At the back of the book, a Fun-Fact Glossary shares simple scientific details about each species—perfect for curious kids and parents who love to learn together. You’ll discover what sea otters eat, where the tiniest creatures like to hide, and how they all live on giant kelp together! Written by Charlotte Stevenson, who studied marine biology and spent years scuba diving in Monterey Bay, this book offers a rare blend of authentic science and fun child-friendly images.
