Columbia River Stories is a collection of fictional tales based on real-life events and places in the Columbia River region from the 1700's to the present. Each story has a cast of multi-cultural characters whose lives converge at the village of Celilo on the great Columbia River. The stories are filled with adventure, challenge and choices, perfect for kids of all ages.
Here are snapshots of the four Columbia River Stories:
The Cedar People: A story of first contact (between Native Americans and Europeans) that changes the lives of everyone in a small Tillamook village on the Oregon Coast.
The Storykeepers: Did you ever wonder what Lewis and Clark's dog Seaman might have to say about the great journey he and his masters made? Well, in this very funny story you'll find out!
The Newcomers: Oh, Pioneers! We follow them from Missouri all the way to Portland, Oregon in the spirited story of multi-cultural camaraderie on the wagon train west, told in the voice of a young Irish girl.
People of the River: Children of Celilo Village and those of many other tribes make the journey to Chemawa Indian boarding school. What they learn there changes their lives forever.
These stories were created collaboratively by 4th and 5th grade students at Harvey Scott School, their teachers, and visiting artists, as part of the Confluence-in-the-schools initiative. All proceeds from the sale of this book benefit children and families in the Pacific NW.
