This rhyming picture book is set in the Australian bush and tells the tale of creatures who enjoy a forest party on a moon-lit night. It celebrates the wonders to be found in nature but also encourages children to use their imagination and enjoy a little bit of magic.
"This rhyming text tells of what happens at night, when the Australian animals gather together for the 'forest ball'. They've decorated themselves with berries, flowers, leaves and feathers, and are all drawn in Muza's colourful hyper-realist style, with added movements and comic elements.
I find the insects particularly charming, and the familiar birds - the galahs and the cockies - all cavorting around delightfully, but still realistically. Well, ot quite actually:
A possum taxi brings in eight
small caterpillars running late.
If we were being strictly realistic, of course possum, being an omnivore, would eat them. But this is for young kids, and what can one expect?
A most enjoyable romp, featuring all the familiar Australian fauna. Highly recommended."
