This book was inspired by a young 4th grade artist who loved to draw. I spent time with her, and her mom, and I was quite impressed as they shared her work beginning in early childhood. She has gone on to win some national competitions. Her work inspired me to write this lyrical story. Instead of publishing it as a picture book, I decided to introduce a concept I call an Unpicture Book. The book is much like a picture book, but without the illustrations. Consider it an advanced coloring book, but without any drawings, which allows aspiring artists to draw and/or paint illustrations.
The reader (artist) comes up with illustrations to match the text. The concept applies to anyone from pre-school through adult who loves to draw and paint. The techniques, tools, and sophistication of the illustrations will change depending on skill level, but the inspiration to illustrate a picture book and make it their own should appeal to any age group.
