Up To $1500 Per Chosen Applicant To Help During COVID-19
LOS ANGELES, CA April 22, 2020 – The financial devastation caused by COVID-19 has led to many people needing a helping hand to get through these hard times. The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Emergency/Tribute Fund has been providing members in need with financial assistance since 2018. With the pandemic, SCBWI has stepped up donations fueled by the generosity of members and foundations.
Contributions to date have totaled nearly $30,000 that has been distributed to 26 recipients, selected from dozens of applicants, including $10,000 from the Pamela Klein Foundation. The gifts have been up to $1,500 per person to cover expenses like food, shelter, and bills. A portion of the grants has also been provided to members to renew their SCBWI membership.
SCBWI Executive Director Lin Oliver said, “It is our pleasure and honor to be able to supply a financial gift to members of the SCBWI community who are struggling to make ends meet at this time. The COVID pandemic has hit the freelance and creative community hard and as always, SCBWI is there to provide a helping hand”.
