Simone Hale began illustrating from a background in graphic design. She is exploring a number of different mediums while building a portfolio of work which has a warmth and touch of nostalgia that appeals equally to both adults and children. She is fascinated by and interested in many areas of creativity including, typography, art and graphic design history, architecture, interiors and children’s publishing.
Simone has worked in Australia and the UK as a magazine Design and Layout Artist and freelanced or worked on titles including Livingetc, 25 Beautiful Homes, 25 Beautiful Kitchens, 25 Beautiful Gardens, Homes and Ideas, Ideal Home, What’s On TV, Vogue Living, Australian Interiors, Gardening Australia, Country Style Diary, Superfood Ideas Healthy Favourites Cookbook and Practical Parenting. Recent illustrations have been published in Root and Star magazine and Flow Magazine’s 2019 Tear Out Calendar.
She is inspired by family life, vintage finds and the many children’s picture books that she can’t stop looking at. She works from a rambling old house in the beautiful New England town of Armidale, where she lives with her husband, Rob, their three children and Rosie and Paddington the Bernese Mountain Dogs.
