Illustrator Gallery - Gerry Daly
Bio:I am an illustrator from County Wicklow Ireland, living and working by the sea in Dublin. Specialising in Children’s Picture Books.
I’ve always enjoyed the interplay between words and images. At my fine art graduate show (IADT) I explored this through the medium of cake decoration!
Since then I’ve worked in the fields of graphic design, and website development, while also exploring my passion for art and illustration, especially picture books.
Some favourite things – really old silent films, monster music, an endless supply of mint chocolate, trees in the wind, dogs in the snow, birds just being birds, and the Skellig islands!
‘Where Are You, Puffling?’ is my debut in picture book illustration. Retold by Erika McGann from a story by my uncle Sean. It’s published by O’Brien Press (Ireland), Boulder Books (Canada/US). A World Book Day special edition will be available 5 March 2020.Workshops:I really enjoy bringing interactive, fun filled story and art events to schools and libraries. Children learn a little about the Skellig islands’ wildlife, especially the puffins. They join in with reading ‘Where Are You, Puffling?’. I demonstrate the drawing of some of the characters, and we go through a step by step workshop. I also show some of the behind the scenes that goes into making a picture book.
