Cathy Morrison has been a freelance illustrator for over twenty years. Though she began her career in animation and graphic design, she discovered her passion for children’s book illustration while raising her two children.
Several of her illustrated chapter and picture books have won awards: Ghost Over Boulder Creek received the Colorado Independent Publisher’s Association EVVY Award for Cover Illustration and Design in 2011. Animalogy received 2012 Silver Medal Independent Publishers Award, 2013 Teacher’s Choice Award and 2012 Independent Publisher Book Award. Nature Recycles was on the 2014 Green Earth Book Awards Shortlist. Prairie That Nature Built received Gold for 2014 Mom’s Choice Award, Gold for 2015 Family Choice Award in picture books, the Growing Good Kids Book Award sponsored by American Horticultural Society and Junior Master Gardener and Gold for the 2015 Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in Nonfiction Picture Book. Pitter and Patter received 2015 NABE Pinnacle Book Achievement, 2015 Indie Book Award Finalist, 2015 Mom’s Choice Gold Award, and is a “Winner” in the Children’s Picture Book: Softcover Non-Fiction category of the 2015 USA Best Book Awards. If you Love Honey has received Gold for Children’s Non-fiction, 2015 Living Now Book Award, 2015 Eureka! Honor Award, and is a finalist for the 2015 USA Best Book Awards.After several years illustrating with traditional media Cathy now works digitally on a Wacom Cintiq using Painter and Photoshop. Her studio overlooks the Mummy Range, on the northern side of the Rocky Mountain National Forest.
