Like so many artists, I began by copying comic book characters as a young boy. With no art classes in school I put together a portfolio of my best drawings and showed them to Burne Hogarth who wrote a letter of recommendation for me to attend the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I started getting editorial illustration assignments even before graduating from SVA. I soon made my way into children’s books and, eighty-something books later, I still love bringing stories to life with pictures. I’ve won Parents’ Choice Awards for many of the nature books I illustrated and was awarded the Rip van Winkle Award for my contribution to children’s literature in the Hudson Valley. My work was included in the exhibition American Nostalgia: Contemporary Artists Pay Tribute to Norman Rockwell. I do many school, library and museum visits presenting my program and workshops. I’m an adjunct professor in the Studio Arts Department at Marist College as well. I’m a past board member and president of the Dutchess County Art Association. I create fine art for regional exhibition and have had work accepted into national shows including The American Artists Professional League, The North East Watercolor Society and the Kent Art Association. I continue to illustrate many books with an emphasis on very high quality for my clients and audience..
