Illustrator Gallery - Ruth E. Harper
Ruth E. Harper
Ruth is a self-taught watercolor artist from England who loves to echo nature’s richest colors in her detailed paintings.
Powered by salty dark chocolate, she is often snatched up by breezes and colors and pint-sized things – feathers, rocks, leaves, shells, bugs, and creatures of all kinds. You might find her gardening, hiking, or riding her bike really fast through the rolly-polly hills of southwest Iowa, where she resides happily with an adorable husband and a sometimes snarky cat. They have 6 children and 10 grandchildren between them, oh my!
Long ago she illustrated a well-loved classic The Kissing Hand, and then Sassafras, Happy Mamas, and recently Otters, Snails, and Tadpole Tails. There are two more in the works.
Ruth is a member of SCBWI and the Colorado Watercolor Society, and she is represented by the awesome Deborah Warren of East West Literary Agency.
Ruth has a solid graphic art/design background, and was an art director for an ad agency before discovering books. She also spent 4 rewarding years teaching 1-6th grade art. She has authored an accredited K-8 art curriculum, has taught both adults and children in community art programs, and loves to visit elementary schools to show how books are made.
