My first art supplies were probably the creamy foods on my highchair tray. Kissable good! Then it was mud, sticks, corn husks and acorns. Mom taught me to sew with fabric scraps. I had unique dollies, to be kind. Aunt Marion encouraged my creativity, buying me paints and giving me clay from her ceramic shop. When we remodeled the aging farmhouse, Dad let me build whatever I wanted out of the old lath. Hideous! But it taught me about construction. After High School, a formal art education. Four years at UW-Superior. I ended up a gymnastics coach. But my art classes introduced me to many different types of media. Now back at my art, I’ve logged years of portrait work, costume design and creation, and sculpting a multitude of creative figures. Having children introduced me to the world of children’s books. A writing class from the Institute of Children’s Literature lead me to SCBWI and I’ve been a member since 2013.
