I’m an illustrator and an art teacher, now living and working on the shores of Narragansett Bay.
My career has taken me from the industrial city of Detroit where I had my own cartoon strip and was a daily illustrator for the Detroit News to some of the most beautiful cities in Europe: Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam and Vienna. I illustrated college level books used ’round the world while in Brussels, and created info-graphics for the Associated Press while in NYC, Paris and Amsterdam; anything from plane crashes to terrorist attacks.
I now spend much of my time illustrating children’s books and teaching the next generation of artists at the Plymouth Center for the Arts in historic Plymouth, MA, as well as art centers in our new state of Rhode Island.
I’m an “artist-for-hire”. It’s my job to make the author’s vision come true. I take great care to listen and explore whatever great idea the author has, and then do my best to get it out on paper.
I still do my children’s book illustrations “old school”; acrylic on watercolor paper. I love to see the texture as well as the paintbrush strokes.I have also transitioned to digital art, and am currently mastering my style in ProCreate on my iPad Pro.
