Jonathan Bouw was born and raised in south-east asia. He completed college and art school in the United States and received his graduate degree from The School of Visual Arts in New York. Since art school he has been producing narrative illustration along side working as a university art professor. Jonathan is a Fulbright Scholar and has received some of the following awards: The Paula Rhodes Award, The Society of Illustrators – Stevan Dohanos – Best of Show Award, and The Gelett Burgess Award for outstanding contribution to children’s literature. Jonathan’s work is on display at the Society of Illustrators Museum of American Illustration, and will be included in Illustrators 64, published by the Society.
Jonathan has been creating images since childhood. In addition to painting with acrylic on paper, he works extensively with Painter, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Jonathan’s clients consistently remark on the many visual options he provides. He believes that the business of illustration is a two-way street, and the working relationship between client and artist should be mutually beneficial. You will find him approachable, easy to work with, and utterly dependable. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York and has worked for clients such as Book of the Month Club, Oxford Press, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Education Week, Improbable Philanthropy and Harvard Graduate School of Education.
