Illustrator Gallery - Mel Pearce
Mel Pearce is an artist and illustrator who is passionate about ink and mark-making, taking inspiration from daydreams, computer games, Miyazaki films, machinery, Japanese street fashion, manga about pirates, elephants, the 80s, fish, hats, teeth, and childhood nostalgia.
While completing her Advanced Diploma in Visual Art and Contemporary Craft at the Central Institute of Technology, Mel thrived in metal-plate intaglio etchings and detailed drawings, going on to receive the Blaxell Award, a prize awarded to promising graduating artists. She then went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration at Curtin University.
Her work has appeared in dotdotdash and Voiceworks and is featured on the West Australian Young Readers Book Award poster for 2017.
Mel has exhibited and sold fan art at anime and pop culture conventions such as Oz Comic-Con and Wai-Con, and is well known for drawing commissioned portraits in character as pirate captain Luffy from the hit manga series One Piece.
She was born in Subiaco, grew up in Darwin, lives in Perth’s northern suburbs, and has recently returned from spending three months in Tokyo learning manga techniques and Japanese.
