Membership in the SCBWI is open to anyone with an active interest in children’s literature, from picture books to young adult novels. We welcome aspiring and published writers and illustrators, as well as librarians, educators, translators, artists, students, dramatists, musicians, filmmakers, and others. A passion for children’s literature is our number one criterion.
You must be 18 or older to join.
Your first year of membership in the SCBWI is $95.* The annual renewal fee is $80*. *US Dollars
Note: Memberships are for 12 months from when you join. They aren’t based on the calendar year. For example, if you join on Nov 15, 2016, then your membership goes from 11/15/2016 – 12/1/2017.

Your welcome packet will now come to you via email only. In the email you will get a welcome letter, the link to the digital editions of The Bulletin and The Book: The Essential Guide to Children’s Publishing (both of which can be found under the PUBLICATIONS link on the website) documents about member benefits, and the Authors Coalition survey. You can find a copy of your membership card by clicking on MY HOME on the homepage.

Members who live in what the UN has designated as a developing country have a discount on the annual membership. When completing the registration form and selecting the country of residence in the drop-down menu, the discount will automatically be applied.
Membership Refund Policy
Membership cancellations with a full refund are available up to 30 days from the transaction date. When you join for the first time or renew your membership, you receive a receipt from our payment processor. The receipt has a transaction date. You have 30 days from that date to request and receive your refund. Your refund will be processed within 3 business days. No refunds will be given after that date.
