Meg Medina Joins SCBWI Board of Advisors

Meg Medina is an award-winning Cuban American author who writes picture books, middle grade, and YA fiction. She lives in Richmond, Va.

Award-winning author Meg Medina has joined the SCBWI Board of Advisors. A recipient of the Pura Belpré Award and Ezra Jack Keats Award, she is known for her picture books, middle grade, and young adult titles, including Tía Isa Wants a Car; Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass; Mango, Abuela, and Me; and Burn Baby Burn. Medina is also a founding member of We Need Diverse Books and the Girls of Summer reading list and blog.

Regarding her new position on the SCBWI Board, Medina said, “I’m so happy to be able to help serve SCBWI, an organization that helped me navigate the sometimes confusing world of publishing. It’s the first place I recommend for new authors, but it’s also the place that continues to offer me support and community as I develop.”

Meg Medina takes a seat at the table two weeks after the exit of illustrator David Diaz, who resigned from the SCBWI Board of Advisors in early January.
