ABOUT AIMEE BISSONETTE

  • I am a writer and retired lawyer in Minnesota.  My first picture book North Woods Girl (Minnesota Historical Society Press, Oct 2015), was illustrated by the amazing Claudia McGehee and won the Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Award, the Friends of American Writers Award, and the Midwest Booksellers Choice Award. My second picture book Miss Colfax’s Light (Sleeping Bear Press, Spring 2016) was beautifully illustrated by Eileen Ryan Ewen. It was named to the 2017 ALA Amelia Bloomer List and received the International Literacy Association 2017 award for primary non-fiction. In 2018, my picture book Aim for the Skies – Jerrie Mock and Joan Merriam Smith’s Race to Complete Amelia Earhart’s Quest was published by Sleeping Bear Press and illustrated by the oh-so-talented Doris Ettlinger. New 2020 releases include Do Not Rake Your Garden in a Party Dress (Cameron Kids) with precious paper cut out illustrations by Kelly Pousette; Dragonfly (Albert Whitman) with brilliantly colored art by Catherine Pearson; The Tinaja Tonight (Albert Whitman) with gorgeous night scenes by Syd Weiler; and When Winter Comes (Sasquatch/Little Bigfoot) featuring wonderful winter art by Erin Hourigan, whose specialty is nature. 2021 releases include Headstrong Hallie! (Sleeping Bear Press); The Second Life of Trees and Shipwreck Reefs (Albert Whitman). All beautifully illustrated!
