ABOUT ALISON PEARCE STEVENS
-
I’ve been chased by a trumpeter swan, bitten by a bronze-winged duck, and served as a climbing wall for geckos and baby bats. I used to be a beekeeper and still think pollinators are some of the coolest things on the planet. I write about science and nature for kids, because I’m an educator at heart who loves to share cool things with the world’s most curious people.
I write lots of fun nonfiction: articles, picture books, and middle grade books. I also write middle grade novels. All of my work is inspired by a love of science and nature. I’m a regular contributor to Science News Explores, Highlights, ASK, and other kids’ magazines, and have written for National Geographic Kids Books. Rhinos in Nebraska: The Amazing Discovery of the Ashfall Fossil Beds (Henry Holt BYR, 2021) was a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection and won three Nebraska Book Awards. Animal Climate Heroes (Henry Holt) and Detective Dogs are on the Case (Holiday House) are scheduled for release in 2024.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As a former scientist, I bring my background into everything I do (because scientists are really just big, curious kids and the natural world is full of incredible things).
