• I specialise in children’s illustrated fiction. I have exhibited at several venues including the Great North Museum Hancock (2005), and the Tate Modern in London (2007). The ‘Green Cat of the Forest’ painting was used in the publicity for the Tate exhibition. In 2008 I had my first poem published in ‘Angel’s Breath’ by United Press London and have had many more published in anthologies, culminating in achieving the title of Best in Category for Writer of the Year 2011 with my childhood memories entry. I live with four rescue cats Aradia, Nightshade, Taliesin and Ysabeau.

  • My work is centred around the celestial fire cat and the Most and  Ancient and Magical Clowder of Grimalhame – a subterranean city of cats that live in the Great Arcadian Forest in the Far Pavilions. The clowder – created by the fire cat in the First Days (Dance of the Fire Cat, 2011) is home to over 40,000 Grimalkins all presided over by the Matriarch – Winnowyn Longwhisker. The fire cat, on entering the mortal world for the first time since his creation in the Beginning, has many adventures, some lighthearted, some dark and dangerous. The world of the fire cat is a world of Old Magic, dragons, and Grimalkins who I hope my future readers will fall in love with, as I have creating them. My main influences are Viking, Celtic, Saxon and Medieval history, which reflect both in my writing and my artwork.
I love to draw on aspects of my native Geordie and Scots-Irish roots  to write my stories, as well as aspects of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, the places where I feel most at home.
