ABOUT ASKA

Aśka is an illustrator, artist and scientist, and
has loved to draw since she was small.
Once a PhD candidate researching quantum optics, she turned her hand
back to art with the goal of being a children’s book illustrator.She has experience in graphic design and character
illustration and had her numerous comics published in Perth and Melbourne. She was also featured on an ABC TV
documentary, Noise On Screen, along with 11 other young Australian artists.Graduating from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Arts in
2011, she won a Curtin Gallery Grant to create works for an exhibition where
she combined her passion for maths, science and art, called 13-Our Faith in
Numbers. She also created a number of short animated films, and with a City of
Perth grant she run Animators Hour, an independent animation festival
showcasing local and international animation talent on the Northbridge Piazza
Superscreen in 2012.Her professional work presenting science programs and
workshops for Scitech across of the Western Australia reignited her passion for
the story telling of science. The March
2017 launch of The Cosmic Adventures of Alice and Bob was Aśka’s first big
illustration project. Written by Cristy Burne, it is a science comic book for
children, sponsored by CAASTRO (Australia’s team of all-sky astronomers).A further two of her illustrative projects have been
published in 2017: Pepsi the Problem Puppy, by Sandi Parsons (Faraway Nearby
Ink), and Looking Up by Sally Murphy (Fremantle Press); both fiction for young
readers. She won a Department of Culture
and the Arts grant in 2017 from the State Government of Western Australia for
the development of a picture book about dyslexia, written by Paul Russell, to
be published in 2018.In all of her illustrations, Aśka loves to create energetic
characters with a curious streak – the best type of friend to take on an
