ABOUT CAROL SCHWARTZ

  • Carol grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and attended Kansas City Art Institute and the Rhode Island School of Design. She earned her MFA in Illustration at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford in 2014. She has illustrated over 60 books for children.

    The book, Sea Squares, by Joy Hulme was selected as an Outstanding Science Trade Book by the National Science Teachers Association and the Children’s Book Council and was a Children’s Choice Award. Thinking About Ants by Barbara Brenner was also an Outstanding Science Trade Book. The Maiden of Northland by Aaron Shepard was an Aesop Accolade List book. Carol’s work is included in the Society of Illustrators permanent collection as part of Women Illustrators Past and Present.  She has enjoyed speaking at hundreds of elementary schools around the United States and higher institutions such as Frostburg State University, the Kansas City Art Institute, Corcoran School of Art, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and the Cincinnati Art Museum. Carol lives in Massachusetts and teaches illustration at Eastern Connecticut State University.
