ABOUT CHRISTY MIHALY

  • Hey, Hey, Hay! (A Tale of Bales and the Machines That Make Them) came out in August 2018. My first illustrated picture book, it’s the rhyming tale of making hay — storing summer in a bale. In October 2018, Diet for a Changing Climate: Food for Thought, YA nonfiction co-written with Sue Heavenrich, released. I like to try out different kinds of writing: nonfiction, fiction, poetry, puzzles and games. My books in the educational market include Moose, All About Apps, Getting Paid to Make Cosplay Costumes and Props, Elephants, and Using Math in Fashion. I’ve sold work to Highlights, Spider, AppleSeeds, Cobblestone, Ask, and other kids’ magazines, as well as Schoolwide, Inc., and the SCBWI Bulletin.

I began writing for young people after 25 years of practicing environmental and consumer protection law in California and Vermont. I’m a member of the Vermont Historical Society, have served as board chair for the Vermont River Conservancy and a local music school, and volunteer in elementary schools. I love going on long walks with my dog, and playing the cello (though not simultaneously).
