ABOUT CORINNE FENTON

  • Corinne, writing under the pen-name of Corinne Fenton is the author of many books for children but her passion is picture books. Her classic picture book ‘Queenie: One Elephant’s Story’ illustrated by Peter Gouldthorpe and published by Black Dog Books, was named an Honour Book in the 2007 CBCA Book of the Year Awards.
    Her picture book, ‘The Dog on the Tuckerbox’ was shortlisted in the 2009 Australian Book Industry Awards, as one of 5 books in the Book of the Year for Younger Children category. It was also shortlisted in the Australian Publishers Association Awards and was named a Notable Book in two categories of the 2009 CBCA Book of the Year Awards.
    ‘Flame Stands Waiting’ was released on March 1, 2010 and was on the Queensland Premier’s Reading Challenge list in 2011.
    ‘Queenie:One Elephant’s Story’ was launched in paperback at the Melbourne Zoo, on 22nd January 2012 and received radio, newspaper and also television coverage on the channel 9 News.
    Corinne has a passion for writing childrens books, especially picture books and enjoys sharing her experiences of the writing/research process with children and adults.
    ‘Hey Baby!’ the first in a series of picture books for 0-8 year olds was released in October 2012 and was shortlisted for the Crystal Kite awards. In June 2013 Queenie was published in the USA by Candlewick Press. In March 2014 her picture book Chasing Shadows was launched to a flurry of wonderful reviews followed by ‘Hey Mum I Love You’ in April, ‘Hey Dad, You’re Great’ in August, ‘Hey Baby, It’s Christmas’ and ‘Little Dog and the Christmas Wish’ in October. For almost 8 years Corinne was the Assistant Regional Adviser (Vic, SA & Tas.) of SCBWI in Australia and for 2014/15 is the Junior Categories Judge for the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards in Australia. Her picture book ‘Little Dog and the Christmas Wish’ was chosen as the theme for the Myer Christmas Windows for 2015 and the windows display came second in the global best window display awards in 2016. Bob the Railway Dog, which was launched in August 2015 was longlisted in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards for 2016 and shortlisted in the Australian Speech Therapy Awards for 2016. Bob the Railway Dog was released in the US in October 2016 and was selected for the United States Board on Books for Young People Outstanding International Books honor list for 2017 (USBBY OIB). In March 2016 ‘You Have My Heart’ was released and in August 2016 a companion book called ‘Counting on You.’ In November 2016, One Christmas Eve was released and was also chosen as the theme for the 2016 Myer Christmas Windows. In March 2017′ My Friend Tertius’, was released. In October 2017, Little Dog and the Summer Holiday was released – so Little Dog is back. In April, 2019, ‘A Cat Called Trim’ the story of Matthew Flinders’s faithful cat, was released and in October 2019, ‘Scruffle-Nut’ was released in the UK and Australia.

ARTIST STATEMENT

  • I feel privileged to be an author of children’s books, particularly picture books, which to me, tell stories for all ages and I love sharing my stories across cultures and with those I love.
