  • Once upon a time, Debbie Ridpath Ohi was a computer programmer/analyst. A lifelong reader, writer and doodler, Debbie is now thrilled to say that she writes and illustrates children’s books for a living.

Debbie will forever be grateful to the SCBWI, especially for the 2010 annual Summer conference, in which a rejection turned into her first children’s book contract and Debbie won two awards: SCBWI Illustration Mentorship Award and an Honor Award for the overall Portfolio Showcase. Read Debbie’s thank you letter to the SCBWI.

Debbie works primarily digitally but has started experimenting with mixed media as well as ink and watercolor.

Her illustrations first appeared in I’M BORED, a picture written by Michael Ian Black, published by Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers in 2012. A Junior Library Guild selection, I’m Bored was also chosen by The New York Times for its Notable Children’s Book List.

Debbie has upcoming books with Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers, HarperCollins Children’s and Random House Children’s Books, including writing AND illustrating books for S&S. She is also working on a middle grade novel. See Debbie’s website for more info about her work.
