ABOUT DEBRA R SANCHEZ

  • I have moved over thirty
    times and have lived in five states in two countries…so far. My husband and I have three adult children, six grandchildren…so far.

    I lead writing
    groups and workshops and hosts writing retreats. I am a freelance translator
    (English/Spanish) and language tutor/instructor for Spanish and ESL.

    My writing has won awards in various genres, including children’s stories, poetry, fantasy,
    fiction, and creative nonfiction. Several of my other plays and monologues
    have been produced and published. Other works have been published in literary magazines, newspapers, and anthologies.

    was
    awarded “Best Children’s Book of 2017” at The Author Zone (TAZ) awards. 

    Snow Pants for Isabella/Pantalones de Nieve para Isabella as awarded “Best Children’s Book of 2020” at The Author Zone (TAZ) awards. 

    What’s that Noise? /¿Qué Ruido Es? was released in June 2020 and recieved a TAZ award in 2021.

    Prompted, Prodded, Published: How Writing Prompts Can Help All Writers also received a 2017 TAZ award in the non-fiction category.

    Raw & Unfinished, received a TAZ award in 2018 for poetry.

    Pages: A Library Play, published in 2016, was first performed as a fundraiser for Springdale Free Public Library in Springdaly, PA. It is also available in Spanish as Páginas: Un Cuento de Bibliotecas 

ARTIST STATEMENT

  • I wear many, many hats: writer, writing coach, editor, publisher, translator, language tutor. 

    But I avoid wearing any physical hats whenever possible. 

    Access to books and libraries is vital to ensure the future is populated with people who know how to think.
