• Frané Lessac loves to travel and to create books based on her worldwide journeys. She is an artist, author-illustrator, publishing over forty books for children. Her most recent book is: We Are Still Here: Native American Truths Everyone Should Know

    Attracted by the beauty of Montserrat, she moved to the small Caribbean island, which inspired My Little Island (HarperCollins). The first of many books written and illustrated by Frané. A number of her paintings are part of private collections worldwide and has exhibited her work in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and London. She studied at the New School for Social Research in New York, University of Southern California, and University of California Los Angeles.

    Frané speaks at festivals around the world sharing the process of writing and illustrating books, empowering both children and adults. She’s presented at the Edinburgh International Writers Festival, Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington DC, the Eric Carle Museum, Brooklyn Book Festival, Ubud Writer’s Festival Bali, Singapore Asian Festival of Children’s Content, Bookaroo Festival India and the Los Angeles and Bologna SCBWI Conferences.

    Frané was awarded The Muriel Barwell Award for Distinguished Service to Children’s Literature in She joined the National Year of Reading initiative as a State Ambassador and is a Room to Read Ambassador.
