• Heather Soodak is an illustrator and art teacher living in sunny southern California. She received her B.A. in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design and earned her teaching credential at California State University, Long Beach. Spending most of her childhood growing up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Heather feels connected to nature and animals, and expresses the message of awareness and appreciation of nature in her children’s stories. Her interest in travel, and experience living in different places also influences her illustration; incorporating ideas about unity, friendship, and exploring other cultures. Her energy and humor comes alive in her bright watercolor illustrations. Heather’s favorite projects include character design, children’s books, and murals. When not illustrating, Heather enjoys a good book, walks in the sunny outdoors, and yoga.

  • Focusing on animals and nature, Heather bring her characters to life on the page! She often works with quick line and bright watercolors, capturing the humor and delight of childhood. Her main influences are Quentin Blake, Maurice Sendak, and Peter De Seve. Her goal is to create books that inspire awareness about nature and other cultures, and rediscover the child in us all.
