ABOUT JACQUELINE LIPTON

  • Jacqui Lipton, LL.B., M.F.A., Ph.D. is an author of books for young adults, nonfiction, and academic work relating to law and the publishing industry. She holds a Ph.D. in intellectual property law from Cambridge University and an M.F.A. in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts (where she was also awarded the Critical Thesis Prize for her work on writing alien characters that illuminate the angels and demons of human nature.) She worked fulltime for many years as a law professor at leading law schools in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. She now divides her time between writing, freelance editing, and consulting to authors and artists on business and legal issues, and developing/teaching online courses in both writing and in law. She writes the LEGALLY BOOKISH column for the SCBWI Bulletin on legal issues for authors and illustrators, and frequently presents workshops around the country for SCBWI and other writers’ organizations on these topics. Her debut YA novel, INSIDE THE PALISADE, won the Purple Dragonfly Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy in 2016 as well as placing in the Houston Writer’s Guild Fiction Writing Contest (writing for children and young adults category) the previous year.
