I’m an award-winning writer and the founder of Conscious Style Guide, the first website dedicated to conscious language. Named by Poynter as one of the top tools for journalists in 2018, Conscious Style Guide is recommended by Poets & Writers, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and countless others, including NASA.

I also founded the Conscious Language Newsletter, the Editors of Color Database, Diverse Databases, and AP vs. Chicago. In 2017, I won the ACES Robinson Prize for furthering the craft of professional editing, the second person of color with that honor.

Acclaim for my fiction includes a California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship grant, a Lambda Literary Fellowship (LGBTQ+), a Table 4 Writers Foundation grant, an SCBWI Nonfiction Grant, and selection of my flash fiction by the L.A. Public Library for its permanent collection.

I belong to SCBWI, the Authors Guild, and the Dramatists Guild. My partner and I live with our cat friends on a mountain not too far from Los Angeles. Find me at KarenYin.com and my book recommendations at DiversePictureBooks.com.
