ABOUT KARIN ANDERSON

  • Karin Anderson is a passionate storyteller with an
    intuitive sense for how to bring words and images together to communicate the
    emotional context of a story. She is a photojournalist, picture editor, writer
    & visual strategist with 15+ years of experience across industries, and
    with some of the biggest names in journalism and communications.

    ​Over the years, she and the staffs under her direction have
    won numerous national and international awards in photojournalism, including
    5 Portfolio and Best Use of Photography awards in the Pictures of the Year
    and National Press Photographers Association contests, and additional awards
    from the Society of News Design, White House News Photographers
    Association, and Visa Pour L’Image International Festival of Photojournalism.
    Some of the media outlets she has worked for include: the New York Times,
    Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun newspapers, Detroit Free
    Press, San Francisco Chronicle, Info Week Magazine, Reuters, and CNN.

    Most recently, Karin has applied her skills to the
    children’s book industry, as both a photographer and picture editor and is
    currently developing several writing projects. Her first non-fiction title with
    author Elizabeth Rusch – Impact! Asteroids and the Science of Saving the World
    – debuted November 2017. Karin is looking forward to the publication of her
    next two projects, respectively with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Little
    Bigfoot/ Sasquatch Books.

    Karin holds Theater & German degrees from New York
    University, a German language proficiency diploma from the Goethe Institute,
    and a Certified Wine Professional credential from the Culinary Institute of
    America.

    She resides in Richmond, VA and is an active consultant for
    writing/editing projects. She also speaks to groups young and old about the
    importance of effective visuals in communications. She lives with her zany
    long-haired dachshund Dagwood, cooks yummy stuff and is still learning how to
    tango.
