Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Kris wrote her first children’s book, I love you I love you I love you I do. If you were a sock . . . then I’d be your shoe, while going through treatment and watching the devastation of 9.11. 2001. Words and pictures convey her desire to protect, nurture, grow roots and give wings to children. Thriving twenty years now, she’s written, illustrated, and independently published six children’s books and two stand-alone novels, FADE TO BLACK & WHITE and I WISH MY WORDS TASTED BETTER, winner of the 2020 SPARK Honor Award for excellence in independent publishing for children, in the Novel category: “There were hundreds of entries to choose from, but the judges were especially impressed with I WISH MY WORDS TASTED BETTER. The professionalism and quality of the writing and art is an exceptional example of independent publishing.”

ARTIST STATEMENT
Born and raised in Illinois, Kris graduated from the University of Illinois with a major in Graphic Design. After beginning her visual communication career in Chicago, she married her best friend and worked in cities throughout the United States courtesy of the U. S. Navy. After twenty years they settled forever in Colorado, but a golden opportunity prompted their seventeenth move to Iowa, bringing them full circle back to the Midwest!
