ABOUT KRIS ABEL-HELWIG

  •             Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, I wrote and illustrated my first children’s book, “I love you I love you I love you I do. If you were a sock . . . then I’d be your shoe” while going through treatment and watching the devastation of 9.11. 2001. I put into words and pictures my desire to protect, nurture, grow roots and give wings to my children and those of my family & friends. I’ve thrived for seventeen years now, and have written, illustrated and independently published six children’s books, helped publish two others and have written and published my first novel, “Fade To Black & White.”

My second novel is finished! Time to query! Agents and editors in search of an adventurous teen with a strong voice, give me a shout. “I Wish My Words Tasted Better” is 79,000 words, most of them delicious. This stand-alone young adult fiction novel follows the outrageous exploits of smart, sarcastic, seventeen-year-old Sofia Isabella Halstead, SOFI: “An idea formed in my brain takes the express lane out of my mouth without bothering to fact check for traffic or accidents ahead… I’m a chick flick loving, love song singing, way too flirty, hopelessly devoted romantic. Which has the tendency to get me in trouble. A lot… I – I – I. I know. But as a military brat, you learn to spew a bio to meet people and fit in before you’re whisked away to the next new school. State. Country. Life.”
