ABOUT KRIS ABEL-HELWIG

  •             Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, I wrote and illustrated my first children’s book, “I love you I love you I love you I do. If you were a sock . . . then I’d be your shoe” while going through treatment and watching the devastation of 9.11. 2001. I put into words and pictures my desire to protect, nurture, grow roots and give wings to my children and those of my family & friends. I’ve thrived for nineteen years now, and have written, illustrated and independently published six children’s books, helped publish two others and have written and published my first novel, “Fade To Black & White.”

My second novel is finished and in query-mode! Agents and editors in search of an adventurous military brat teen with a strong voice, give me a shout. “I Wish My Words Tasted Better” is 82,000 words, most of them delicious. This stand-alone young adult fiction novel follows the outrageous exploits of smart, sarcastic, seventeen-year-old Sofia Isabella Halstead, SOFI: “An idea formed in my brain takes the express lane out of my mouth without bothering to fact check for traffic or accidents ahead… I’m a chick flick loving, love song singing, way too flirty, hopelessly devoted romantic. Which has the tendency to get me in trouble. A lot… I – I – I. I know. But as a military brat, you learn to spew a bio to meet people and fit in before you’re whisked away to the next new school. State. Country. Life.”

Third novel in the Heroes Series, “My Wings Aren’t Ready To Fly” is now 32K words and going strong!
