ABOUT KRISTI BARTHOLOMEW

  •     Kristi is an aspiring author and illustrator based in south Florida. She received a B.F.A in figurative drawing and painting, and a B.A. in Spanish from Alma College in Michigan.  Kristi lived in both Spain and Honduras to obtain fluency in Spanish. After graduation, she moved to New York to pursue fashion, earning a design degree from F.I.T.  Her career in fashion has spanned 15 years, designing dresses for well-known brands.

As an illustrator, Kristi loves creating nuanced characters whose expressions, body language, and clothing add depth to their identities.  She relies on her background in figurative art and fashion illustration, as well as a lifetime of dreamy doodling to achieve this goal.  Design has also provided her with an intuitive sense of color and a love of pattern.

Kristi loves skateboarding, salsa dancing, and cooking- all themes that have inspired manuscripts in work! She grew up on a farm, raising rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, and horses and welcomes any projects that are full of animals.

ARTIST STATEMENT

  •      I love working in both traditional and digital mediums.  My favorite materials include watercolor, gouache, wax pastel, and colored pencil.  In digital art I favor Procreate-but my years in fashion have provided a foundation in Adobe CC, as well.  I like a strong sense of line and enjoy designing page layouts. I love working with color and picture books, but would like to experiment with grayscale graphic novels, too.
