ABOUT LINDA ELOVITZ MARSHALL
-
Raised near Boston, Massachusetts, I attended Barnard College (Columbia University) in New York City where I studied Cultural Anthropology. Following college, I began working in a local daycare center and, accompanied by my husband, followed the Call of the North to Minnesota. There, I studied Early Childhood Education, opened a Montessori-based preschool and taught Parenting Education. After having spawned three children, we moved back east to a farm in upstate NY where we had a fourth child. We also raised sheep, chickens, rabbits and children.
I have consulted for the NYS Department of Child Development and Parenting Education, earned my masters degree (and am ABD) in Cultural Anthropology and Education, owned and operated my own independent bookstore and written for national magazines. In 2009, I began writing for children. Thus far, my books include: Talia and the Rude Vegetables (2011) , Grandma Rose’s Magic (2012), The Mitzvah Magician (2012) all with KarBen/Lerner and, most recently, The Passover Lamb, (2013) with Random House. I am very proud that two of my books, The Passover Lamb and The Mitzvah Magician, were chosen as book-of-the-month selections by the prestigious PJ Library (www.pjlibrary,org).
In addition to writing for children, I teach English to Speakers of Other Languages, enjoy swimming, hiking and traveling. My husband and I spend time at our (now sheep-less) farm in New York’s Hudson River Valley, a cabin in the Adirondacks, and New York City (where there are several sheep, all believed to be living the Central Park Children’s Zoo).
