ABOUT LOLA M. SCHAEFER

  • Lola M. Schaefer is the author of more than 270 books for children. She publishes picture books, easy readers, and beginning chapter books with HarperCollins, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, Chronicle Books, Holiday House, Disney/Hyperion, and Blue Apple Books. She has also written 12 books on classroom writing instruction for teachers which are published by Scholastic Professional Resources. Awards include the Orbis Pictus Recommended Books for 2014 for LIFETIME, Book all Young Georgians Should Read 2014 for JUST ONE BITE, an ALA Notable Children’s Book in the LA for PICK, PULL, SNAP! WHERE ONCE A FLOWER BLOOMED (2003) and AN ISLAND GROWS (2006), which was named a Charlotte Zolotow Honor Book. FRANKIE STEIN received the Children’s Choice Book Award in 2008 and the Mockingbird Award in 2009. Her picture book ARROWHAWK earned several state reading awards, as well as three Zena Sutherland Awards and was selected as a 2005 Outstanding Science Trade Book. Lola enjoys visiting schools across the country as a writer-in-residence and a writing consultant. Currently she is writing and publishing more narrative nonfiction picture books, as well as fiction for the emergent reader. Lola and her husband Ted built their home in the mountains of north Georgia. They enjoy the wildlife, hiking, and serenity of rural life.
