ABOUT MALENA F. ALZU

I have worked for over twenty years with another colleague illustrator and SCBWI member Esther Pérez-Cuadrado, under the name ARTIMAGOS in the editorial market, mostly on textbooks and other educative materials.
Book design and illustration are our main fields and we have been published by Spanish Publishing Companies (Santillana, SM, Edelvives,
Everest, Anaya, Bruño) and some international (Oxford UP, Cambridge UP,
Pearson, MacMillan, Usborne). Sometimes we have developed projects from the scratch.
We give workshops about art and reading and have a very personal view to Children books in our blog- http://milaytete.blogspot.com. We have sketches and gifs in http://http://esthercoladeraton.blogspot.com.es/.
Besides new education approaches and media literacies, other of my interests are animation and interactive projects. As a reader, I love science-fiction, contemporary fiction, non-fiction, YA, thrillers, and, of course, picture books. Right now I am teaching Digital Art and I love it!
As Spain RA I understood some specific work should be done to create and offer resources in Spanish for our international members and that is what I am trying to accomplish as Spanish Language Coordinator.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My works, readings and research have in common the impact of art and language in our way of thinking and our growing as decent human beings. I am a Spanish Language advocate.
I enjoy practicing collaborative art and literary works and always work my illustrations and projects with another illustrator and friend from College. We are very different and put ourselves in our illustrations.
I believe in education as the most powerful tool to make a better world and I am interested in everything related to it: books, new approaches in pedagogy, creativity, technologies and media literacy…
My favorite places are museums and libraries: they are home.
