ARTIST STATEMENT
“Nothing happens unless first a dream,” wrote Carl Sandburg. I write historical fiction for middle grade and young adult readers, hoping to whoosh them into a dream world about real events that took place in real time, bringing the past to life, one adventure at a time. through the reader’s imagination.
My most recent publication is Underground Scouts – a WWII Novel, a YA historical fiction about six Polish Boy Scouts and Girl Guides who worked alongside the Underground Resistance to help push the Germans out of Warsaw before the end of the war. Although the attempt known as the Warsaw Uprising proved suicidal, they hoped to show the Allies they did not want to be given over to the Communists at the end of the war.
California Trail Discovered is a MG novel that follows fictional and historical teens on the Oregon Trail. The book also includes links to STEAM lessons. Book two, Yosemite Trail Discovered, (YA) completes this duology of The Whitman Discoveries. Book two follows characters of California Trail Discovered as they explore California’s gold country and become some of the first whites to enter Yosemite Valley.
I also have a middle grade series coming soon titled Ancient Elements. It includes The Bronze Dagger and the Stolen Jewels, The Alabaster Jar and the Hidden Tomb, Enlil’s Adventures: Clay Tablets and Mari Spies, and The Silver Coin and the Puzzle Box. This series, especially written for students studying ancient civilizations, will include curriculum related to the Common Core teachers can use with each book.
