ABOUT MARIE MANLEY TUCKER

  • When I was young, I would flip over my school work and draw flowers instead. My favorite thing to do was color and hang up my works inside my grandma’s closet like a gallery. I have synesthesia, what my family would call my “crazy color thing”. I have always been an artist, compelled to create all the time.

My favorite books… Too many! If I stuck with just picture books with bears, my favorites would be BEAR CAME ALONG, BEAR AND CHICKEN, POLAR BEAR IN THE SNOW, SOAKED, and MR. TANNER. Some of my favorite chapter books are The THICKETY series, and A TALE DARK AND GRIMM series. Some of my favorite grown-up books are The DIVINERS series, THE SHINING, and THE FIREMAN.

ARTIST STATEMENT

  • My illustrations are a combination of colored pencils (sometimes crayons) and digital illustrating. My stories come from my heart, and I want to share them with the world through traditional publishing. I would also love to illustrate other’s written works as well.

To help me tell stories, I read tons of picture books, volunteer on Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Picture Book Challenge forum as an “Elf”, participate in a critique group, and attend SCBWI functions when able. Creativity is contagious.
